Why Leave a Gift in Your Will?
A gift in your Will enables MSNZ to:
- Advocate for improved access to treatments and services for people with MS, now and in the future
- Provide ongoing education for Community Advisors and regional organisations
- Deliver evidence-based information and resources for people with MS, their families, carers, and employers
- Raise national awareness and reduce isolation for the MS community
- Even a small gift can make a significant difference and live on in memory, helping us support those affected by MS for years to come
How to Leave a Gift
1. Seek Professional Advice
We recommend discussing your wishes with your family solicitor or Trustee when preparing or updating your Will.
If you already have a Will, a simple amendment (codicil) can be made by your solicitor to include MSNZ.
2. Suggested Wording
If you wish to include MSNZ in your Will, you may like to use the following wording:
“I bequest to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of New Zealand the sum of $ (or) % of my estate, (or) residue of my estate (or) property or assets as follows: for the general purposes of the Trust and declare that official receipt of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of New Zealand will be sufficient discharge for my Trustee/Executors.”
3. Types of Gifts
You can choose to leave:
- A specific sum of money
- A percentage of your estate
- The residue of your estate after other gifts have been made
- Specific property or assets
4. Letting Us Know
If you have chosen to leave a gift in your Will to MSNZ, we would love to hear from you so we can thank you personally. If your circumstances change, please let us know so we can update our records.
If you wish, you may also advise us of your next of kin so we can update them on how your gift has been used.
