Symptom Management

MS and Spasticity

Spasticity is one of the most common symptoms in MS, affecting around 80% of people. It usually involves increased muscle tone, stiffness, and involuntary spasms—most commonly in the legs—which can limit movement and cause pain.

Tremor

Tremors—trembling or involuntary shaking movements—can be a challenging symptom of MS, impacting tasks like eating, drinking, or writing. It affects between 25% and 60% of people with MS.

Balance and Coordination

Balance and coordination problems are common in MS, affecting up to 80% of people with the condition. These issues can impact walking, daily activities, and independence, but with the right strategies and support, they can be effectively managed.

Weakness

Weakness is one of the most common symptoms of MS, caused by nerve damage that disrupts signals between the brain and muscles. It can affect any part of the body and may impact mobility, grip strength, and the ability to carry out everyday tasks.
