- Oceans of Hope Challenge NZ
Oceans of Hope is an international project for people with MS, showing what’s possible when you step outside your comfort zone. The challenge is open to anyone with MS, regardless of sailing experience, and is designed to empower, inspire, and connect.
In 2018 the first Oceans of Hope Challenge NZ was launched by Ingrid Robertson, a passionate advocate and person with MS, for whom sailing brought back happy memories and a drive to achieve her goals.
Since then, Oceans of Hope, in collaboration with the NZ Sailing Trust, and supported by Multiple Sclerosis NZ has taken to Aotearoa’s seas most years giving crews the opportunity of a lifetime.
2026 Challenge
2026 will mark the 10th year anniversary for Oceans of Hope, and they would love you to take part and join them aboard Lion New Zealand for an unforgettable adventure. They’ll be sailing through the breathtaking islands of the Hauraki Gulf, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Dates: 23rd to 27th November 2026
Cost: $1,456 (including food)

What to Expect
While you must commit to actively participating, no sailing experience required. A professional skipper and crew will guide and support you throughout the journey. You will have the opportunity to learn the basics of sailing, navigation, and teamwork in a safe, encouraging setting.
It’s not all hard work. With your fellow MS and professional crew, you will enjoy the beauty of the sea, swim, go ashore to explore, and challenge yourself in a supportive environment.
For most participants, the main takeaway they have is the community and connection they build. Meeting new friends, share experiences, and become part of a unique MS community is the highlight of the trip, and why many return year on year.
