New Zealand Based Studies and Trials

Economic burden of MS 2021 – Understanding the total costs and benefits of a health challenge is good health economics which matters for society because a person’s health has implications for families, society and the economy.

New Clinical Trial for those with Primary Progressive – now recruitingO-Hand, or Oratorio-Hand, is a clinical trial involving 1000 adults with PPMS globally and Multiple Sclerosis NZ is excited to see 4 trial sites taking part in NZ based out of Waikato, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin DHBs.

Clinical Trial for Potential MS Treatment: clozapine and risperidone – Clinical Trial to explore whether clozapine and risperidone, which are currently used to treat mental illnesses and have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in the brain, can also be useful for treating MS.

End of Life Choice Study – seeking volunteers who are nearing the end of life who are willing to share their views in an interview.

Virtual Reality Exergaming – An MS rehabilitation study to explore the views of people with MS (PwMS) to potentially use VR-exergaming to improve physical function and cognition. Nov 2021

Vitamin D MS Prevention Trial – PrevANZ – Australia and NZ based trial that will test whether vitamin D supplementation can prevent MS

Comparing Australia and New Zealand MS Populations Project (COMPANZ) – Exploring the long-term effects of MS disease modifying treatments (DMTs) by comparing people with MS living in Australia and New Zealand

Support for males assisting those with MS – investigating levels of social support, carer burden, willingness to seek help and attributes related to gender role.
